Rescue Stories
Summer's Story
Summer was found on the front porch of a house in Cameron Park, California. The homeowners asked around, called the shelters, etc but no one claimed her. Summer spent the majority of her time in their garage and after several months the home owner contacted the local GCESF rescue person, Lois Gorman, as he realized he was not giving Summer the exercise and attention she needed and deserved. I am a member of our rescue committee and took Summer to foster. She is a small, young, spayed orange female field English setter. She was my first field as I have owned and bred bench ES for many years. It didn’t take long before she charmed everyone in the family including my bench setters and I realized that our lives would be enriched if she became a permanent member of the family. Summer is a perfect, and I mean perfect, dog. She is very obedient, gets along well with all the other dogs and is about as reliable as a dog can be. However, she hates mornings and is the last to get off the bed, which may explain why she might have been discarded as a hunting dog. There aren’t many hunters willing to wait until after 9:00 before hitting the blind! I have a lot of room and her first few days were spent hunting the property. She could hardly move the next mornings so I originally thought she may be severely dysplastic. It was just a matter of days before she was moving normally, and I realized she was so unused to exercise that she was just stiff and sore. She smiles all the time and worships my nephew, who visits every couple of weeks. I am so glad I discovered the joy of a rescued field setter and feel honored to have provided Summer with her forever home.
